Case Study

The network example constructed by DrayTek products of a cinema company

This document is a case study of a cinema company with branches in remote locations. The requirements include VLANs, IP phone system, Wi-Fi etc and also link the branches to central office. In addition, the network needs to be managed from the central office.

This document goes through the steps in setting up this network.

  • Corrected: Failed to upgrade firmware with firmware upgrade utility 3.6.6
  • Corrected: Customized default configuration overwrote the default WPA PSK Key.
  • Corrected: Bind IP to MAC didn't work in specified configuration.

Why VRRP MAC is not visible on Vigor Router?

 This application note describes how to configure the Vigor Router to accept and record VRRP MAC address. This is useful where firewalls or cluster servers are on the Vigor router’s LAN network and the virtual IP and virtual MAC address of server are not visible in the router ARP table. This is due to a default setting in the Vigor Router which does not accept VRRP MAC addresses.

What is LAN IP Alias and how to use it?

LAN IP Alias is a new feature introduced in the latest firmware for Vigor2925, Vigor2952, Vigor3900, Vigor2960 and Vigor300B. LAN IP Alias allows multiple LAN IP addresses to be added to a single subnet. This application note shows how to configure LAN IP Alias on a Vigor Router.

Vigor2760 V3.8.7

New Features

  • Add an option to disable / enable "EAPOL Key Retries" (Wireless LAN(2.4GHz) >>Security Settings), so system administrator can configure EAPOL retries.
  • Support VoIP >> Diagnostics.
  • Support IKEv2 for IPsec tunnel in LAN to LAN.
  • Support RIP over PPPoE.
  • Support DrayDDNS.

Improvement

  • VDSL connection could not get showtime with VT4 modem code.
  • Failed to authenticate L2TP over IPsec VPN connection by customer's LDAP server.
  • Open ports did not work but port redirection and DMZ worked fine

This application note describes how VLAN Port Configuration affects  incoming and outgoing frames on VigorSwitch P2261.

NAT

[Vigor3900] What is Fast NAT and when to Use it?

The latest firmware (V1.3.2) of the Vigor3900/2960/300B now supports Fast NAT function which allows specific LAN hosts to skip inspecting and go to the fast NAT path directly. This reduces the CPU load and speeds up NAT sessions performance. This application note uses a configuration example to show how this works.

How to use Country Object in Route Policy?

This application note describes how to use the country object in Vigor routers to forward traffic for certain applications or web sites based or the destination country using the Load Balance/Route Policy configuration.

VPN

How to do port redirection to a host on the remote network?

This application note shows how to access a server on a remote network over a VPN connection even the remote router does not have a public IP or certain ports are blocked by the ISP.  After the VPN tunnel is established, open port settings are used  in the remote router to access the server.

  • Improvement for dashboard display.
  • Enable SysLog Server on System Maintenance>>Syslog/Mail Alert to activate Web Syslog.

  • Corrected: HTTPS access barrier blocked remote https connection even the user had logged in.
