How to implement Web, URL and APP Filter on a 2950 (globally)?
Posted by on 20 January 2012 02:33 PM

The Web Content Filter on Vigor routers, if enabled, will check the category of every web site you try to visit against a database of prohibited web sites. If the web site matches one of the banned sites on the database then access to that web site will be blocked. This is useful to protect children from visiting web sites that are undesirable or harmful. For example web sites having adult or sexual content.

NOTE: At present (April 2009) there is no need to subscribe to the database service but this may change in the future.

Step 1:

Go to “CSM>>Web Content Filter Profile” and tick on Enable Web Content Filter, select the Categories and click OK. See example below.

Go to “Firewall>General setup”, select “Block Radio” and click [OK] to save.

Once enabled, the Vigor Router will automatically access the database to determine which sites to block.

Testing if a Web site is Categorised

To test a particular web site, and  see how it's categorised by Surfcontrol, Go to “CSM>>Web Content Filter Profile” and click on “Test a site to verify whether it is categorized”.
