How to connect Vigor Wireless Router to two Vigor APs by Bridge-WDS mode?

This document will guide you through on how to extend wireless coverage to two locations using two Vigor AP810 and a Vigor 2830n as your wireless router.

Supported Models: Vigor AP 710, Vigor AP810, Vigor AP 910c, Vigor AP902, Vigor 2760n/Vn, Vigor 2832n, Vigor 2860Ln/n/Vac/ac, Vigor 2925Ln/n/Vac/ac and Vigor 3220n.

 

 

 

Vigor 2830n Setup

     1. Enable DHCP service on Vigor 2830n.

         a. Go to LAN>>General Setup and then click LAN1’s “Details Page".

         b. Under DHCP Server Configuration, select “Enable Server” and then click “OK” to save your settings.

     2. Setup wireless LAN SSID, Mode, and Channel.

         a. Go to Wireless LAN>>General Setup.

         b. Select “Enable Wireless LAN”, Mixed (11b+11g+11n) and Channel 6, 2437MHz.

         c. Enter SSID (e.g support1) and then click “OK” to save your settings.

     3. Setup wireless LAN’s security.

         a. Go to Wireless LAN>>Security.

         b. Under security settings, select WPA2/PSK, enter Pre-shared Key and then click “OK” to save your settings.

     4. Access the APs using web user interface and copy the mac-addresses.

         Open a web browser (e.g Chrome, Mozilla, etc) and enter the following below.

         - AP IP address: 192.168.1.2

         - Username: admin

         - Password: admin

     5. After copying the mac-addresses of the two APs, add it to Vigor 2830n.

         a. Go to Wireless LAN>>WDS.

         b. Select mode as “Bridge” and Pre-shared Key type as “WPA2” and then enter the Key.

         c. Select “Enable” under Bridge section and enter the AP’s mac-addresses under Peer Mac-address.

         d. Click “OK” to save your settings.

 

1st AP 810 Setup

     1. Disable DHCP service in AP 810.

         a. Go to LAN>>General Setup.

         b. Untick “Enable DHCP Client”.

         c. Select “Disable Server” under DHCP Server Configuration and enter Vigor 2830n IP address as the default gateway.

         d. Click “OK” to save your settings.

 

     2. Setup wireless LAN SSID, mode, and channel.

         a. Go to Wireless LAN>>General Setup.

         b. Select “Enable Wireless LAN”, Mixed (11b+11g+11n) and Channel 6, 2437MHz.

         c. Untick “Enable 2 Subnet”, enter SSID (e.g support2) and then click “OK” to save your settings.

 

     3. Setup wireless LAN’s security.

         a. Go to Wireless LAN>>Security.

 

          b. Under security settings, select AES, enter Pass Phrase and then click “OK” to save your settings.

     4. Search for 2830n SSID and then add as a bridge.

         a. Go to Wireless LAN>>AP Discovery.

         b. Under Access Point Discovery click “Scan".

         c. Select SSID “support1” which is the 2830n’s SSID and then click “Add” to WDS settings.

         d. Under WDS settings, select “AES” and enter the same key that you used for 2830n’s WDS security settings.

 

2nd  AP 810 Setup

     1. Disable DHCP service in AP 810 and change AP’s management IP address to avoid conflict.

         a. Go to LAN>>General Setup.

         b. Untick “Enable DHCP Client”.

         c. Select “Disable Server” under DHCP Server Configuration, enter a different IP address for AP 810 (e.g 192.168.1.3) and enter Vigor 2830n’s

         IP address as the default gateway.

         d. Click “OK” to save your settings.

     2. Setup wireless LAN SSID, mode, and channel.

         a. Go to Wireless LAN>>General Setup.

         b. Select “Enable Wireless LAN”, Mixed (11b+11g+11n) and Channel 6, 2437MHz.

         c. Untick “Enable 2 Subnet”, enter SSID (e.g support3) and then click “OK” to save your settings.

     3. Setup wireless LAN’s security.

         a. Go to Wireless LAN>>Security.

         b. Under security settings, select AES, enter Pass Phrase and then click “OK” to save your settings.

     4. Search for 2830n SSID and then add as a bridge.

         a. Go to Wireless LAN>>AP Discovery.

         b. Under Access Point Discovery click “Scan".

         c. Select SSID “support1” which is the 2830n’s SSID and then click “Add” to WDS settings.

         d. Under WDS settings, select “AES” and enter the same key that you used for 2830n’s WDS security settings.

To verify that the APs are connected to the 2830n using WDS Bridge, we can use a laptop or a mobile phone to connect to AP’s SSID (support2 and support3). If the laptop or mobile phone can acquire an IP address from the 2830n DHCP service, thus WDS Bridge is working.
