Security Update

WPA2 Krack Vulnerability

Overview

A new vulnerability could impact all devices using WPA2 protocols to secure their wi-fi networks, according to a report released by US-CERT.  More details in the blog article: https://www.krackattacks.com/

The weakness in the WPA2 protocol allows for attackers to not only read and steal information transmitted across wi-fi, but also potentially manipulate the data or insert malware.

How it Affects DrayTek Wireless Router Products

When DrayTek wireless products, such as wireless routers and access points, are used as wireless base stations, they are not affected by the KRACK (Key Reinstallation AttaCK) vulnerability; therefore, patches or updates are not required.

However, other devices connecting to DrayTek products and functioning as wireless clients (e.g., mobile phones, tablets, laptops, etc.,) could be vulnerable. You should check with device vendors to determine if updates are needed.

When DrayTek products are used as wireless clients and access into Internet with universal repeater or wireless WAN modes, the wireless traffic is susceptible to interception as the router or access point is acting as a wireless client.

DrayTek will be releasing firmware updates to address the issue starting next week.

Routers with wireless WAN support, and their corresponding fixed firmware versions:

Vigor ACS 2

How to set up AP Load Balance by VigorACS 2?

VigorACS 2 provides AP Load Balance feature in AP Profile feature. Load Balancing is achieved by disallow new connections to the AP when it already has too many stations connected or too much traffic, thus forcing the new station to connect to other free AP.

There are two ways to configure AP Load Balance in VigorACS 2: Balancing by stations an AP is connected or by traffic an AP has. This article demonstrates how to set AP Load Balance in VigorACS 2.

How to plan the wireless coverage by using Floor Plan feature on VigorACS 2 before deploying VigorAPs?

This application note shows how to use Floor Plan tools in VigorACS 2 to preview the deployment of VigorAPs, estimate the coverage of the wireless signal. It will help in the placement of Access points to achieve the best coverage. The example used here is the deployment of access points in an exhibition centre.

Management

How to plan the wireless coverage by using AP Map feature on AP Management (APM) before we deploy the VigorAPs?

This application note shows how to use the AP Map feature in Vigor Access points to estimate the coverage of the wireless signal and the number of Aps required to obtain the best Wi-Fi coverage in an installation.  The AP Map feature can also be used as graphical AP monitor, which display some of the basic information, after linking the existed AP

The scenario used is Wi-Fi deployment for an exhibition centre.
